FM-Processor Setting

fm-processor-2

How does your radio station sound? Quieter than your competitors? Is your sound flat and there are no "powerful" basses? How do you perform the requirements of the Federal Law on the volume FL-338? Is your deviation normal?

It is good for you if you know the answers to these questions, because regulatory authorities can ask them at any time. And the quality of the sound is not what they will be mostly worried about.

Quite often, it appears to be that the purchase of an FM-processor solves 90% of the problems with the sound of the radio station. Unfortunately, this is not true.

In one of the regions of Russia the signal to an expensive FM-processor was supplied via an analog cable which was several floors long. The result was a low input level, which led to a malfunction of audio processing algorithms in the processor. The problem was solved by replacing the analog channel from the receiver to the radio relay digital processor.

A correct FM-processor configuration is divided into several stages. In some cases it will be possible to stop after the first stage, while others you will have to go all the way to the end.

1. Carrying out technical audit.

Cost: free.

Before starting the work, our engineers create the most detailed scheme of the sound path from the microphone circuit to the antenna. It is possible that poor sound quality will improve by rotating a tumbler «Stereo On» on the transmitter or by selecting the correct mode of making the pre-emphasis.

2. Remote installation of presets made for your radio station.

Cost: contract price.

At this point, you need to record your on air broadcast made with an FM-tuner and record the broadcast of the station to which you are targeting in terms of quality and volume, as well as setting the installed processor screenshots. Taking into account the parameters of your radio broadcast (genre, type of broadcast, coverage area, etc.) and the parameters set by software and hardware (FM-processor brand, software for automation, the transmitter brand, type of sound channel, etc.), our engineers will create a preset that can be installed on the remote FM-processor. Refinement of the preset lasts until the representative of the station is satisfied with its sound.

3. "Field" setting of an FM-processor.

Cost: contract price.

If the remote configuration of an FM-processor is not possible, our engineer comes to your radio station personally. In this case, all work on the FM-processor set up is happening on the ground, in a close cooperation with you, so that our expert can assess the sound of the competitors and find an original and high-quality sound of your radio. You pay for the accommodation and travel expenses, as well as the cost of the work of our specialist, which is calculated individually depending on the number and models of FM-processors, as well as the number of days to be spent.

4. Control of deviation and tailoring of the FM-processor.

Cost: free if a "field" setting is ordered. By remote configuration the cost is calculated additionally.

To measure the parameters of deviation we use a professional FM-signal analyser Deva Radio Explorer II (http://www.devabroadcast.com/radio-explorer-2 ). With the help of it, you can adjust the audio signal parameters, the pilot tone and the RDS in accordance with the requirements of the broadcasting. You can also make up a distribution map of the reception level of your radio around the antenna with visualization through Google Maps. At the end of the settings we compose a free expert opinion on the technical condition of your broadcasting complex from the microphone to the antenna*. If necessary, we apply the recommendations about how to improve it.
