FOXXWire - proprietary audio protocol developed by company Tract

The protocol belongs to the Audio-over-IP (AoIP) family and is designed to transmit sound and commands in TCP / IP networks.

Based on RTP, multichannel (8 stereo channels), bidirectional. It works in UNICAST mode, only point-to-point connections are supported (transferring one stream to several devices is not supported at once). Whereby one device can establish several connections with different devices simultaneously and receive / transmit several different streams simultaneously.

Sound between devices is transmitted uncompressed, 24 bits per sample, in stereo format. Sample rates of 44100 and 48000 KHz can be used.

In future versions, it is planned to support the MULTICAST mode and compatibility with the AES67 standard.

Network requirements:

  • 1100 Mbps or 1 Gbps (depending on the device);
  • Both static and dynamic allocation of IP addresses can be used (depending on the device).

Use of managed and unmanaged network equipment is allowed (connection through a network router).

To connect devices to a Windows PC, Trakt developed the FOXXWire ASIO Driver. Any software supporting work with ASIO can use this driver. The driver works under Windows OS 7, 8.0, 8.1, 10.

Any network card that meets the network requirements will do.
